I picked up Khaled Hosseini's book A Thousand Splendid Suns, on the recommendation of @viajar_pelas_paginas.
An inspiring story of friendship, love and war.
The plot follows the lives of two women in Kabul: Marjam, who, after the death of her mother, married Rashid's older widower at the age of fifteen, and Leila, a fourteen-year-old girl who becomes Rashid's second wife after losing her parents.
The relationship between Marjam, an unacknowledged child without a mother, and Lejla, a loved daughter, turns from a hostile into a friendship that will become unbreakable.
When the Taliban come to power in Afghanistan, life begins to turn into a desperate struggle for survival.
She was like a stone in a riverbed - endured everything without a word of complaint, with dignity.
