Change
A short novel by the winner of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Literature.
The narrator describes his upbringing in China during the Cultural Revolution - his schooling, serving in the military and becoming a famous writer. Throughout the life of the protagonist, the changes that have taken place in the last fifty years in China, which is becoming a world power from a rural country, are also reflected.
The novel begins with a dramatic memory of the school from which Mo Yan was expelled at the age of twelve, all because of the derogatory nickname he gave to the teacher. But he was not the only one. Two little outcasts will become the hypotenuse of the novel.
From remembering his childhood, school, time spent in the military (when he started writing letters and deciding to become a writer), the novel turns into a love story.

"In what first impressed me as the magnificent residence of a wealthy landowner, I saw nothing more than an ordinary apartment building, which proved that my horizons had widened."
