Open Secrets
Open Secrets consists of eight stories. Most of the action takes place in Ontario and all the stories are connected to that place, but there is also a sense of history. One geographical exception occurs in a story in which the writer deviates from the main narrative line into the narration of the abduction of a passenger in Albania and her attempt to assimilate and finally escape.
All the stories are similar in appearance - intimate, tense, restrained, intense, simple, masterful and set in a picturesque Canadian town.
Munro writes about female protagonists, about their everyday lives and thoughts, without drama, even when the story of abduction or disappearance - the drama takes place in the minds of the characters, haunted by their conscience.
The reactions, emotions and thoughts of the protagonists are familiar to all of us and we can easily identify with them.
